As a parent, the thought of registering your child for Primary 1 (P1) might feel a bit overwhelming.

Which means your kid is going to Primary 1 come 2025!

But do not worry – I am here to guide you through the process!

This article will explain the key dates and phases in simple, easy-to-understand terms, so you can feel confident about what is ahead.

What is P1 Registration?

P1 registration is how you sign your child up for their first year of primary school.

It happens in several phases, each with its own set of rules about who can register when. The goal is to make sure every child has a fair chance to get into a school.

Here is a breakdown of the different phases and the important dates you need to know for 2024:

Phase 1: Siblings in the Same School

Who Can Register:

  • Children who have a brother or sister already studying at the school.

Key Dates:

    • Closes at 4:30 PM on Thursday, 4 July 2024
  • Results: Wednesday, 10 July 2024

All kids eligible for Phase 1 will get a place in the school.

Note:

  • Each school saves 40 spots for Phase 2C kids.
  • There is a limit on how many Permanent Resident (PR) children can enroll in some schools.

Phase 2C Supplementary: Last Chance

Who Can Register:

  • Children who are still not registered after Phase 2C.

Key Dates:

  • Registration:
    • Opens at 9:00 AM on Thursday, 15 August 2024
    • Closes at 4:30 PM on Friday, 16 August 2024

Tips for a Smooth Registration

  1. Start Early: Talk with your family about which school you prefer well before the registration period. This can help avoid last-minute changes and stress.
  2. Get Your Singpass Ready: You will need a valid Singpass to register online.
  3. One School Per Phase: You can only register for one school in each phase. If you do not get a spot, you can try again in the next phase.
  4. Stay Positive: If your child does not get into a school in one phase, there are still other chances. The system is designed to help find a place for every child.

By knowing these dates and understanding the phases, you can feel more prepared and less anxious about P1 registration.

Take it step by step, and remember, you are not alone – many parents are going through the same process.

Good luck!
