Remember last time your kid wake up 8am still can make it to school?
Now everything like running marathon every morning.
Loti used to take her own sweet time eating breakfast, now everything also must rush rush. Late for preschool also nevermind.
The transition from preschool to primary school feels like upgrading from bicycle to sports car, without driving lessons.
Some days I wonder if installing a water slide from bedroom to bathroom will speed things up.
At least now we can laugh about our first week drama.
Morning Drama (First Hour Most Action)
You know what is the biggest challenge for Primary 1 parents?
Not the homework, not the new routine.
Is how to make your child wake up when still dark outside.
First week I tried everything: sweet voice, alarm clock, promise reward.
Nothing worked until I bought those special wake up lights from Shopee.
Much better than harsh ceiling light that makes everyone grumpy.
Money well spent, I tell you.
Our Morning SOP (Cannot Change One)
Now everything must follow strict timing.
6:00 AM: I wake up first, prepare myself mentally.
6:10 AM: First attempt wake Loti up, confirm still sleeping like log.
6:15 AM: Second try, usually with promise of favorite breakfast.
6:20 AM: Start counting down breakfast time, very effective.
6:30 AM: Must finish washing up, or else no more breakfast time.
6:45 AM: Speed eating competition begins.
7:00 AM: Out the door no matter what, even if hair still bit messy.
School Support Really Good (Thank Goodness)
Our school really put in effort to help parents and children adapt.
First week orientation was super useful for everyone.
They let parents come canteen with children, practice buying food.
Teachers show students where everything is: toilet, water cooler, sick bay.
Even got buddy system with Primary 5 students helping out.
The school also arranged meetup with form teacher before term started.
My Loti went from scared scared to confident after one week.
Parent WhatsApp group also very helpful, share a lot of tips.
Student Care Like Life Saver
Want to know the best decision we made?
Student care near our school became our secret weapon.
They handle everything: lunch, homework, even make sure children take nap.
Got playground nearby so children can release energy before going home.
Teachers there very patient, help check homework properly.
The routine they set up works perfectly for working parents.
Sometimes Loti prefer stay student care than come home early.
Cannot blame her, they organize activities very well.
Money Management Skills (From Zero to Hero)
First day in canteen was like playing Amazing Race.
Loti didn't know how to order food, count money, carry tray.
Now? She become expert already.
Knows which stall give more food for same price. First 2-3 weeks she has been eating Udon.
Now she is exploring other food.
Counting Money? Don't worry lah. Now she can count coins faster than calculator.
Even start saving money from her allowance.
Make friends with canteen aunties who sometimes give extra portion.
Primary school really teaches life skills, I tell you.
Evening Time Also Got System
Pick up time at 5pm always exciting, Loti share all her school stories.
Must go playground first, primary school children energy never finish.
By 6pm we reach home, straight to shower no negotiation.
Dinner time is family bonding time, everyone share their day.
7pm start homework check, make sure nothing left behind.
Pack school bag properly, or tomorrow confirm forget something.
8:30pm bedtime routine starts, no excuse.
Early to bed makes morning drama less intense.
What We Learn After 3 Months (Real Experience)
Name tag everything, even water bottle need two tags. Books label. Shoes if can also label. Some blur kids forgotten which is her shoe at the student care. Power sia!
Check weather forecast night before, plan umbrella or not. If raining heavily, need to depart home earlier abit.
Join parent volunteer program, get inside scoop about school events.
Practice independence skills at home, like packing bag.
Set up rewards system for morning routine success.
Most important: take lots of photos, they grow up too fast.
Parent Tips That Really Work
Prepare uniforms on Sunday for whole week.
Buy enough uniforms or PE T-Shirt.
Make homework checklist stuck on fridge door.
Create morning routine chart with stickers.
Set multiple alarms, including one for parents.
Keep emergency snack in bag always.
Practice wake up timing one week before school starts.
Make friends with other parents, share carpool duties.
Last Words (But Not Really Last)
Primary 1 journey like roller coaster ride.
Some days very smooth, some days want to pull hair.
But after three months, everyone getting used to new life.
Remember to celebrate small wins, like when they wake up on time.

Primary 1 more exciting than we thought right?

How did you decide which student care to go in the end?
There wasn’t much choices or rather it’s quite straightforward. The student care had more affordable pricing $300++ compared to another one that cost $700++ and also playfacto.
+ they also can pick up the kids from the school. Walking distance.
