Finally! Nearing the end of 2CS!
The application numbers are out, and we can say we safely got into the school we wanted for 2CS.
It is a journey that mixes excitement, anxiety, and anticipation. Like a long game of waiting and waiting.
While we have made it through the process, I know others are still in the middle of it.
I thought it would be helpful to share what I have learned along the way.
We have all been there, right?
That moment when you realize this is a big deal for your child and for you too.
Understanding the Phases
There are different phases:
- Phase 1 for siblings
- Phase 2A for alumni and staff
- Phase 2B for those involved in community work
- Phase 2C and 2C(S) for everyone else.
At first, I thought we would need to gather a mountain of documents.
But surprisingly, the MOE’s system is quite efficient.
All we had to do was log in, click a few buttons, and all the information was already there.
It made me realize that Phase 2C is actually quite straightforward.
You just apply and then wait for that SMS.
It is so much easier than Phases 2A and 2B, where you might have to pull some strings with school affiliations or put in hours of volunteer work.
The Big Fish Dilemma: Choosing the Right School
Choosing a school is tough.
We did our homework, looked at the statistics from past years, and decided to try for a popular school.
It's a 50 / 50 thing. Tio or no Tio.
But we also had a backup plan—a school that rarely oversubscribes during Phase 2C(S).
Both schools were within 1km of our place, but the backup was slightly more convenient.
Logistics, distance, and convenience have always been my concerns, and that made the decision even more challenging.
Here is where I started thinking about the whole “small fish in a big ocean of sharks” versus “small fish in a small pond” thing.
Would my kid thrive in a super competitive environment, or would they do better in a more nurturing one?
I found myself leaning toward the smaller pond.
But if we got into the popular school, that would be a bonus, right?
So our situation was rather relaxed versus some of the stories I heard like shifting to the nearby school of choice, but cannot get it.
Or do alot volunteering work but 2B didn't get it. 2C also didn't get it.
Our Game Plan
Our Alumni school was super out of the way.
My wife was in the super popular primary school, while I was in the super not popular primary school.
So, Phase 3 also got space.
But I do work out fine, scored 230+ for PSLE.
So really, popular or not actually...........................
So for 2B, I not in time to volunteer, so 2B also out.
Our game plans was 2C and back up 2CS.
So....
Either go big or go home.
The Thrill of Phase 2C: Like Buying a TOTO Ticket
So for our 2C, we were trying for a popular school, and the excitement was so intense. We calculated that it will be many times oversub.
Sibei exciting. Super Excited on result day.
So normally, on first week you will know the applications numbers.
We need to wait for 2nd week for the ballot results.
2nd Week, 8am see SMS, see tio anot.
Have you ever bought a TOTO ticket from Fu Lu Shou and the first prize ticket was actually from Fu Lu Shou.
Yes that kind of excitement.
We were holding onto that hope, just waiting to see if our lucky SMS would come up.
It was like I was holding my breath, hoping for the best but also mentally preparing for the worst.
So, as expected - We did not get it. And the game carries on to 2C(S).
Where the other school has to absorb the spillover.
But! The spillover number is more than what the school can absorb.
Very exciting and have to wait for 2CS registration 2nd day to get the updates.
Letting Go: Trusting the System
One of the biggest lessons in all this was learning to let go.
I was excited about the possibility of getting into the popular school, but I was also okay with the idea of going with our 2C(S) option.
In the end, you have to trust the process and be ready to support your child, whichever school they end up in.
When you are a beggar, you cannot choose. (During 2C)
The school choose you.
Some parents at 2CS still asking about review of another school.
You know the Long John Silver 2 Pc Golden Chicken Meal? You are left with the crumbs already.

We Are All in This Together
By the time we hit Phase 2C(S), the common phrase among parents was,
“Every school is a good school.”
It was kind of funny but also comforting.
Connecting with other parents and sharing our experiences helped a lot.
Some even said that the popular school we were aiming for was not all it was cracked up to be.
Fated we call it.
Whether that was genuine advice or a bit of sour grapes, who knows?
We Singaporeans do have a bit of FOMO, after all.
In the end, knowing that other parents were in the same boat made everything more bearable abit.
We were not alone in this crazy process, and that made all the difference.
There are parents started as early as 2B phase!
The Relief
When we finally got the updates that our 2CS option no need to ballot, means bao jiak.
All of us sibei relief.
Everyone had been worried that Phase 2C(S) would need a ballot because of the spillover from the popular schools.
So, getting that update felt like a huge win.
Now it is time to get ready for Primary 1 in 2025.
What’s Next? The Final Prep for Primary 1
With the updates over, now comes the next stretch—confirming the spot, submitting any remaining documents, and preparing for school orientation.
It is time to shift from the stress of registration to the excitement of starting school.
I heard 5am plus gotta wake up is it?
Guess we are in the primary school rat race again.
The Journey: Many Excel Sheets
As I look back on this journey, I see how much vested interests we have.
Who knew I would spend so much time with Excel sheets, calculating percentages and analyzing stats?
It was stressful, yes, but also strangely exciting.
If you are going through this process now, know that it is okay to feel overwhelmed.
We have all been there.
Just remember to focus on what really matters—your child’s happiness and readiness for this new chapter.
The waking up at 5+ am.
Looking Forward: A New Chapter Begins
Now that the registration process almost there, I am filled with excitement for what is next.
To all the parents still going through this, hang in there.
Yes, it is challenging, but it is also a time of growth and new experiences.
If you decided to play the game, pray for the best, prepare for the worst.
