Honestly, who knew parenting would turn me into an expert on baby strollers, screen time limits, and healthy meals?
But it is true – as parents, we are our kids' first and biggest influencers!
That is why I am super excited to share that I was recently featured on HealthHub!
Wah, what a journey it has been.
In the feature, I talk about the small but important steps I took to become a healthier role model for my kids.
It all started when I realised I was totally out of breath just trying to teach my daughter to ride her bicycle.
I thought it would be a piece of cake, but boy, was I wrong.
Halfway through, I felt like I had run a marathon!
That was my wake-up call – I needed to level up if I wanted to keep up with my kids.
So, I got back into jogging, bit by bit.
Slowly but surely, I started to feel the difference.
And guess what? I could actually keep up with my daughters' boundless energy!
Soon, we were incorporating more active family time into our daily lives.
And trust me, what started as simple cycling trips turned into regular weekend adventures.
Now, outdoor activities are a norm for us, and our family has never been closer or healthier!
The best part? I went on to join the 2XU 21km run!
Something I never thought I could do before this fitness journey started.
But after all that training and keeping up with the kids, I felt confident enough to take on this challenge.
And completing it? Wah, that was one of the proudest moments of my life!

The Importance of Being Active Together
To be honest, I thought keeping the family active was going to be a challenge – busy schedules, tired parents, you know the drill.
But once we started, we realised it was something we actually looked forward to.
Cycling became a weekend thing.
We explored different routes, like those at Sports Hub and park connectors, making it fun for the kids.
Now, they are the ones dragging me out the door for outdoor activities!

Balancing Screen Time and Healthy Habits
I am not going to lie – managing screen time is tough.
With devices everywhere, it feels like an uphill battle.
But we try our best to lead by example.
No phones during meals, more family conversations, and indoor activities like reading or board games keep the kids engaged.
And guess what? It actually works.
Limiting screen time and focusing on being present helps us reconnect as a family.
They will still occasionally ask for screen time. To us, that is usually the last resort instead of the first reward.
Unless we are out eating a $80 / pax premium meal that we need our peaceful time. Then it is more worthwhile to throw them the device after exhausting all option.
Healthy Meals and Snacks
When it comes to healthy eating, I used to think, “Wah, extra work leh.”
But I was so wrong.
Introducing more fruits, vegetables, and healthier snack options turned out to be way easier than expected.
And surprise, surprise – the kids started to enjoy them too.
Loti likes lady's finger, Mei Mei likes corn and watermelon.
Like they say, if you love veggies, your kids will probably follow suit.
What also happen was. We brought them to some theme parks. But they have height restrictions.
So we tell them - If you eat vegetables, you will grow taller so you can play the rides.
Look at giraffes? What do they eat? Haha.

Self-Care for Parents
You know what I learned?
Taking care of yourself is just as important as taking care of your kids.
Self-care is not selfish – it actually helps you be a better parent.
Whether it is a quick jog, a quiet moment alone, or reading a good book, recharging yourself makes all the difference.
And when you are feeling good, your kids will pick up on it too!

You Too Can Make Healthier Choices
Honestly, if I can do it, so can you.
All it takes is small steps – a family walk, cutting down on screen time, or swapping snacks for healthier options.
The journey is not always smooth, but it is so worth it.
We are our children’s role models, and the habits we create today will shape their future.
