Ya Kun’s Toast Set: A Pricey Luxury or a Rip-off Breakfast

By Money Saving Daddy

I need to talk about something important today.

I just had the legendary expensive Toast set at Ya Kun, and guess what? I paid $7.30 for their toast set with butter kaya toast, two soft-boiled eggs, and an upsized Teh C.

That's a lot!

The Expensive Toast Set

Now, let's think about this. $7.30 just for toast and eggs?

That sounds really expensive, right? I mean, it's just a simple toast set, bread, eggs and drink.

But here's the thing that really got me thinking: for less money, you can get a whole meal at McDonald's!

McDonald's for Less!

Did you know that for only $5.95, you can get a McChicken meal at McDonald's?

If you top up abit, you can even get medium fries, and McChicken with cheese for $7.25!

That's right, a full meal with a burger, fries, and a drink, and it's cheaper than the Ya Kun toast set!

What's Going On?

So, why is the toast set so expensive? It's just toast, eggs, and tea. But at McDonald's, you get more food for less money.

It doesn't make sense to me.

Why Pay More When You Can Make It Yourself?

So, I've come up with a clever solution. Why not make our own breakfast set at home?

It's easy, fun, and most importantly, way more affordable!

DIY Toast Set: Easy and Cost-Effective

Here's what you need for your homemade breakfast set:

  1. Toast Bread: Grab your favorite bread from the local supermarket or bakery. ~ $2.50
  2. Kaya: This delicious coconut and egg jam is the star of the show. Available in most stores, or you can even make it at home! ~ $2 to $10 per jar
  3. Butter: A little butter goes a long way for that rich, creamy taste. ~ $6+
  4. Eggs: Soft-boil them just the way you like. ~ $7 for a Tray of 30 Eggs
  5. Your Favorite Beverage: Whether it's tea, coffee, or something cold, pick what you love to drink in the morning. ~ $6 - $7 for 13 Sticks

So we average out per meal we are having

  • 2 slices of Bread = $0.30
  • 2 Eggs = $0.50
  • Kaya  = Say $0.20 per usage
  • Butter = 1 Bar of $6 can use for 20 servings = $0.30
  • Beverage = $0.50

Total = Approximate $1.80!

Of course, you will be saying we need crispy bread like Ya Kun, and also perfectly timed Soft Boil Eggs.

So the additional equipments we need is probably the airfryer or Toaster and the soft boiled Egg equipment.

  • Airfryer - From $60
  • Toaster - From $30
  • Soft Boil Egg Maker - From $5

The Benefits of DIY

Cost Savings

Making your own set is definitely cheaper. Think about the savings over time!

Customization

You get to make your toast just how you like it. More kaya? Less butter? It's all up to you! I will go for more butter anytime!

Family Activity

Involve the kids! It's a fun way to spend time together and teach them about saving money and cooking.

Final Thoughts

So, why pay $7.30 for a breakfast set when you can make a similar or even better one at home for much less?

It's all about being smart with our money.

And the best part? You get to enjoy a delicious, homemade breakfast with your family!

What do you think?

Are you ready to try making your own breakfast set?
