The joys of cycling with the family in Singapore go beyond just pedaling around.

It is also about finding the perfect spot that suits everyone, from energetic kiddos to weary parents.

With 75% of Singaporean parents saying they struggle to find outdoor activities suitable for the whole family, we have put together a list that prioritizes accessible routes, scenic beauty, and fun pit stops.

Whether you're on a budget, looking for safety, or aiming for a picturesque ride, our guide has you covered.

If you're just like us, hoping for a fun-filled day without breaking the bank or the bike, you're in the right place.

Here are our favorite spots where the whole family can have a wheely good time!

1. Best for Scenic Views: East Coast Park

Why It's Great: East Coast Park is a family favorite for its beautiful seaside views. The pathways stretch out for miles, offering plenty of room for your little cyclists to pedal at their own pace. It's perfect for a leisurely ride where you can feel the sea breeze and maybe even catch a glimpse of a ship sailing by - sibei shiok!

Location:

  • Address: East Coast Park extends from Changi Airport to Marina East
  • Getting There: Closest MRT stations are Bedok or Marine Parade (Thomson-East Coast Line), then take a bus or taxi to the park
  • Car Access: Ample parking available at carparks C, D, E, and F (most central)
  • Entry Points: Multiple access points along East Coast Park Service Road

Cost Insight: Good news, my kiasu friends: entering the park is free! If you need a bike, rentals start at $10/hour, which is reasonable given the prime location.

Where to Rent: "GoCycling" is a reliable choice, and they've got bicycles that fit the whole family. You can find them at Area C, Area E, and Marine Cove within the park. But some may not be kids friendly. If you have kids with you, suggest that you bring your own bike to avoid disappointment for the kids.

Kiasu Bonus: The nearby food centers are a big plus. A quick stop for satay or rojak at East Coast Lagoon Food Village (near carpark C) is always a highlight for us. Plus, nothing beats a cold drink after a good sweat!

2. Best for Adventure: Pulau Ubin

Why It's Great: If your family loves a bit of adventure, Pulau Ubin is a must-visit. The island is like stepping back in time with its rustic trails and abundant nature. Cycling through this kampong-like paradise, you'll see wild boars and monkeys—an exciting ride for your little explorers!

Location:

  • Address: Pulau Ubin Island (accessible only by bumboat)
  • Getting There: Take a bumboat from Changi Point Ferry Terminal
  • Ferry Terminal Location: 51 Lorong Bekukong, Singapore 499172
  • Nearest MRT: Pasir Ris, then bus 109 to Changi Village
  • Operating Hours: Bumboats run from 6am to 7pm daily (depart when full with 12 passengers)

Cost Insight: Getting there is its own mini-adventure. The bumboat ride is about $4 per person one way, and bike rentals on the island are around $6/day. Quite a bargain for a day's worth of exploration. More suitable for older kids 10 years old and above.

Where to Rent: Near the ferry terminal on Pulau Ubin, local kiosks offer a variety of bikes. Pick something sturdy because the trails can be a little bumpy.

Kiasu Bonus: Fresh seafood on the island is a must-try. After a day of cycling, feasting on chili crab or seafood laksa at one of the local eateries like the Season Live Seafood Restaurant near the jetty is the cherry on top.

3. Best for Family-Friendly Facilities: West Coast Park

Why It's Great: West Coast Park is known as the "Play Centre in the West," and for good reason. Besides safe cycling paths, it's packed with playgrounds that will keep the kids entertained for hours. This makes it perfect for a day out with the entire family, even if some members prefer slides over bikes.

Location:

  • Getting There: Nearest MRT station is Haw Par Villa, then bus 200 to West Coast Park
  • Car Access: Plenty of parking at the West Coast Highway entrance
  • Park Layout: Area 1 (Grand Lawn) and Area 3 (Adventure Play Area) are popular cycling spots

Cost Insight: Entry is free, and bike rentals are around $8/hour. A fair deal considering the park's many amenities.

Where to Rent: "Cycle Max" near the park entrance at Area 3 is the spot for bicycle rentals. Their staff are friendly and can help set you up with the right bike.

Kiasu Bonus: For a quick snack or a full meal, there's a McDonald's right in the park at Area 3. Happy Meals are a perennial hit with the kids, and I must admit, the fries are not just for them!

4. Best for Waterfront Views: Punggol Coast Park

Why It's Great: Punggol Coast Park offers one of Singapore's most picturesque waterfront cycling experiences. This northeastern gem provides stunning views of the Johor Straits with its well-maintained paths that are perfect for families with children of all ages. The park's relaxed atmosphere and gentle terrain make it ideal for beginners and young cyclists still finding their balance.

Location:

  • Address: Along Punggol Road, near the junction with Punggol Coast Road

  • Getting There: Nearest MRT station is Punggol (NE17/PTC), then take bus 84 to the park

  • Car Access: Limited parking available at Punggol Settlement

  • Entry Points: Main entrance near Punggol Settlement, connects to Punggol Waterway Park

  • Park Connectivity: Part of the larger Punggol Park Connector Network (PCN)

Cost Insight: Like most public parks in Singapore, entry is completely free. Bike rentals in the vicinity start from $6-8 per hour, making it an affordable family outing even if you don't own bicycles.

Where to Rent: "JomMakan Bicycle Rental" at Punggol Settlement (3 Punggol Point Road) offers a variety of bicycle options including family bikes and children's models. They're open from 9am to 7pm on weekdays and 8am to 8pm on weekends.

Cycling Route Highlights:

  • The Punggol Promenade Nature Walk extends about 2.4km along the coastline

  • Connect to the Punggol Waterway Park for an extended ride (additional 4.2km)

  • Relatively flat terrain suitable for families with young children

  • Several rest stops with benches facing the sea for break times

Kiasu Bonus: After cycling, reward yourself with some delicious seafood at The Punggol Settlement. WHISK & PADDLE café offers a fantastic view of the waterway and serves kid-friendly dishes alongside good coffee for parents who need that caffeine boost. For families bringing their own bikes, there's a water play area at Punggol Waterway Park where kids can cool down after the ride—bring a change of clothes!

Pro Tip: The park is especially magical during sunset, so time your ride to end around 6:30pm for breathtaking orange and pink skies over the water. It's the perfect backdrop for family photos that don't require any filter!

Connectivity: Punggol Coast Park connects seamlessly with the larger Punggol Waterway Park, offering families the flexibility to extend their cycling adventure. For those with older children looking for more challenging routes, you can continue all the way to Coney Island Park for an adventure-filled day of exploration.
