Bangkok with Kids: 7 Days of Family Fun and Adventure

By Money Saving Daddy

It has been many years since we travelled to Bangkok. The last time was like in 2014!

Bangkok used to a frequent travelling place for most Singapore couples. Short flight, travel light, shopping paradise, affordable food.

And now we are travelling to Bangkok with kids! The ball game really different.

No more street food, no more authentic narrow food places.

When we are planning for the trip, we were thinking. Eh, 7 Days is it too much.

Actually if you are travelling with kids, it is consider too little. Because during couple days, you can do 3-4 itineraries a day.

With kids, you are doing maximum 2-3 itineraries. Sometimes even 1!

Day 1: Journey from Singapore to Bangkok

Morning - Preparation & Departure:

The day began at home in Singapore. We double-checked our luggage, ensuring everything was packed for the kids, before heading to the airport.

The check-in and boarding process was smooth, setting a positive tone for our journey.

We took Flyscoot, had luggage of 20kg x 3 for a family of 5. 3 Adults , 2 kids.

3 luggage, 1 hand carry kids luggage and a stroller.

This time we are trying out a new check in luggage. Introducing the Roller Hand Carry Luggage.

1 kid can sit on it, and at least we free up 1 hand.

Afternoon - Flight to Bangkok:

The 2.5-hour flight was filled with anticipation and aerial views. The kids are excited during the flight. To avoid the ear pressure, we brought along their pacifier (they already weaned off). So that they will not feel the ear pain.

We landed in Bangkok at 6 pm, and our booked airport transfer (9 Seater Van - 1200baht) is already waiting for us.

Stay: 14 Place Service Apartment

We managed to find this service apartment for our 6 nights. It is a 2 bedroom apartment. Each bedroom has a king and single bed. So total can sleep 6 pax!.

The place is located very near to Terminal 21 and Asok BTS.

Less than 5 mins walking distance!

After checking in and dropping all the luggage, we are ready to explore the area.

Dinner - Pier 21 at Terminal 21 Food Court:

Our first meal in Bangkok was at the bustling Pier 21 food court in Terminal 21.

The variety of delicious, affordable food was the perfect introduction to Thai cuisine for the family. We tried a mix of dishes, enjoying the flavors and the lively atmosphere.

We ordered dishes like:

  • Pad Thai - 30b
  • Tom Yum Soup - 50b
  • Roasted Meat Rice - 36b
  • Fried Oyster Omelette - 65b
  • Mango Sticky Rice - 35b

Pricing is very affordable! But this is just here. The other places we went are actually the market prices. Like 90-100b for a Tom Yum Soup.

Day 2: Animal Adventures and Chocolate Ville

Morning - Departure to Safari Zoo:

Duration: 1 Hour is the ride from Bangkok City to Bangkok Safari Zoo.

At 8.30am, we set out for Bangkok Safari Zoo, eager to see the animals and shows. En route, we dropped by a 7-11 to get some quick breakfast bites.

I am always a fan of Bangkok 7-11 quick bites. I remembered many years back they had alot of sticky rice options.

This time round, we tried a few flavors of it.

Day - Safari Zoo Activities:

The zoo was a hit with the kids, who loved the Orangutan and Elephant shows. We spent the day interacting with animals, including special encounters with orangutans, giraffes, and tigers.

Here's what we did for the day.

  • Orangutan Show
  • Elephant Show
  • Lunch Outside some where
  • Safari Drive in
  • Orangutan Photo Encounter
  • Giraffe Feeding
  • Tiger Photo Encounter

Late Afternoon - Chocolate Ville:

As the day wound down, we headed to Chocolate Ville. This unique dining destination offered a scenic and relaxing environment to reflect on the day's adventures.

It is something like a theme restaurant with a lot of cute mascots and dance performance.

The kids were delighted with their free ice cream, a sweet end to an exciting day.

Day 3: Markets and Hopping

Morning - Maekhlong Railway Market:

Our third day started with a visit to the Maekhlong Railway Market.

We arrived early to see the train make its dramatic pass through the market, an experience the kids found both thrilling and unique.

There are timings for the train to pass through the market. You will see the huge crowd swarming in. It is as real as what you see on tv!

After the train come and go, we brisked around the railway market to see what is over there. It is quite an interesting sight to see a wet market along the rail.

Afternoon - Damnoen Saduak Floating Market:

We continued our market exploration with a visit to Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. A super tourist trap!

Navigating the waterways on a private boat, we soaked in the vibrant atmosphere, albeit at tourist prices, and enjoyed some local treats.

We spent like 2500b for the private boat ride. It took like 1.5 - 2 hours. You can opt for 3 options.

  • 2000b - Just boat Tour (1 Hour)
  • 2500b - Boat Tour + Coconut Farm (We paid for this but this farm is nothing much, just a shop that sells coconut drink and candy) - 1.5 Hours
  • 3000b - Boat Tour + Coconut Farm (2Hours)

Late Afternoon - Café Hopping:

Chillax: After the Rain Cafe

After the Rain Cafe is a serene and picturesque spot, known for its relaxing ambiance and beautiful setting with boats gently floating by on the riverside. It's a perfect place to unwind after a busy day, offering delicious refreshments and Instagram-worthy views that encapsulate the tranquil side of Bangkok's bustling life.

Post-market, we relaxed at the aesthetically pleasing After the Rain Cafe.  Interesting place, and the desserts at the cafe are reasonable compared to the carrot tourist trap floating market.

Chillax: Bubble in the Forest cafe.

Bubble in the Forest is a unique cafe in Thailand, floating above pristine waters, offering an experience akin to the Maldives with its hut-like villas and serene ambiance. Visitors can enjoy the comfort of beanbag seats in each villa, accessed by walking across elevated bridges, and relax in a hammock against the tranquil backdrop of the floating cafe.

We selected the little hut along the waters. There is a swing for every hut and my daughter love playing with the swing!

Day 4: A Day of Play, Pampering, and Shopping

Brunch: Thongsmith Boat Noodle

We started our day late as we ended our night late too.

So first thing is heading to Centralworld to find food. W

e took the BTS from Asok to centralworld. Our friend recommend us to try this Thongsmith Boat noodle. We enjoyed the rich flavors of traditional Thai boat noodles — a hit with the whole family due to its delicious taste and affordable prices.

Afternoon - Playmondo Kids Playground:

After lunch, it was time for fun at Playmondo Kids Playground, located within Centralworld.

This was a special treat for the kids, who spent hours exploring and playing in this imaginative and engaging space. Though it is not as big as I thought, but the convenient wrist tag transfer system allowed us adults to take turns supervising the kids and enjoying some leisure time.

Relaxing Massage: PandaSPA

While one of us stayed with the kids at the playground, the other escaped for a well-deserved, relaxing 1-hour massage. This was a perfect opportunity to unwind and enjoy a bit of tranquility amidst the busy travel schedule.

Chillax - Shake Shack

After the 3 hours playgroud, the kids was super tired and they literally just snoozed off while we try to exit the mall. So in the end, we found a cushion bench at Shake Shack for my girl to lie down while we order some snacks to munch.

Evening - Shopping Disappointment and More:

We planned to spend the evening shopping at Platinum Mall, only to discover that it closed earlier than we expected at 8 pm.

Despite this minor setback, we adapted our plans and headed to Big C for some late-night shopping. The store was filled with a variety of snacks and goods, making it an enjoyable experience as we browsed through the aisles, picking up treats and souvenirs.

Day 5: Iconsiam and Evening by the River

Morning - Journey to Iconsiam:

We started Day 5 with a scenic 30-minute car ride to Iconsiam, one of Bangkok's most impressive shopping complexes. The kids were excited about the journey, looking out at the passing cityscape.

Exploring Iconsiam:

Upon arriving at Iconsiam, we were struck by its sheer size and the variety of shops and attractions spread across its 7 levels.

We explored the mall, taking in the high-end boutiques, local crafts, and the small floating market in the basement, which offered plenty of food options. The kids particularly enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere and the array of sweets and treats on offer.

Noon - Playtime at Harbourland:

For the kids, the highlight of Iconsiam was Harbourland, a vast indoor playground where they played for hours. The space was filled with colorful, imaginative play areas, and we appreciated that the entry fee was reasonable.

It was a great way for them to expend energy and for us to relax knowing they were having a fantastic time.

Evening - Relaxing at Fallabela:

As the day turned to evening, we headed to Fallabela for dinner. This restaurant offered stunning riverside outdoor seating, allowing us to enjoy the cool breeze and view over the water. The food was affordable and delicious, providing the perfect end to a busy day of exploration and play.

Same as the day before, the kids also nap during this time.

Late Night - Navigating the Crowds:

Our return to the hotel was a bit more challenging than expected, with congested taxi and Grab queues and general traffic jams.

However, the day's enjoyable experiences outweighed the temporary inconvenience of the crowded journey back.

Interestingly, we are not able to book a normal grab. So we booked a premium grab but it got stuck in the jam for 15 mins, since 15 mins ago and reaching in another 15 mins. [Read here for our taxi encounter]

Day 6: Grand Palace Disappointment and Local Delights

Morning - Visit to The Grand Palace:

The last day of our trip began with a visit to The Grand Palace. We had high expectations for this iconic landmark, but found it more tourist-centric than anticipated, focusing primarily on public areas rather than the majestic palace interiors we imagined.

Despite this, the architecture and historical significance were impressive.

Lunch - Local Thai Food:

After our palace visit, we stumbled upon a local Thai food store where we had lunch. The simple yet delicious chicken rice and beef noodle provided a comforting and authentic taste of Thai cuisine, a reminder of the country's rich culinary traditions.

Afternoon - Last-Minute Shopping at Platinum Mall:

We returned to Platinum Mall in the afternoon for some last-minute shopping.

This time, we made sure to arrive well before closing, allowing us to browse at a leisurely pace and pick up a few final souvenirs and gifts.

Dinner - Platinum Mall FoodCourt:

For our last meal in Bangkok, we dined at the Platinum Food Court, choosing a variety of dishes to share. While we noted that the prices were higher compared to other food courts we'd visited, the convenience and variety made it a fitting choice for our final evening.

Day 7: Farewell Bangkok

It's departure day. Since our flight is at 3pm. We went to terminal 21 food court again for our last minute brunch of the delicious fried oyster omelette and some last minute shopping at terminal 21.

Airport Transfer: 12pm

We arranged for our airport transfer at 12pm so we can reach there 1pm for our check in. The airport transfer quote to us was 1200baht. Not the cheapest, but we are definitely comfortable.

You can check out Klook for a price comparision.

Evening - Homeward Bound:

As the plane touched down back home, we were filled with a sense of contentment and adventure, already dreaming of our next family journey.
