Birthday Cakes in Singapore: Where to Buy and What They Cost (2026)

By Money Saving Daddy

Let me tell you something. My daughter turned 1 and I spent more time researching birthday cakes than I did on my own wedding cake.

Not because I am a crazy dad. Because there is actually no good guide online for Singapore parents that tells you what things cost, what the cake actually looks like, and whether it is worth it.

So I did the research. Here it is.

What I Spent on My Kids Birthday Cakes (Real Numbers)

For my daughter’s first birthday, we spent $150 on a custom 2-tier fondant cake from a friend who runs a home-based baking business on the side.

She does it on weekends and when she has time — not a full-time thing, just something she enjoys and happens to be really good at.

We gave her the theme, she made it happen. The cake looked exactly like what we had in mind, tasted proper nice, and my daughter ignored it entirely in favour of smashing her hands into the frosting.

For her second birthday, we spent $155 on a character cake from a bakery.

Same result. Different cake.

Lesson learned. The cake is for the parents. The kids do not care.

One thing I will say though. Getting a cake from a friend who bakes from home feels different. You are not just buying a cake.

You are putting money into someone’s side hustle, someone you actually know. For us, that matters. If you know someone who bakes, ask them first.

You might be surprised what they can do, and you get to support a friend at the same time.

The Options in Singapore (And What They Cost)

1. Home Bakers (Most Customisable)

Home bakers do the best custom work. Want a specific theme, a particular colour scheme, a fondant version of your child’s favourite cartoon character? Home bakers can do it. And if it is someone you know? Even better. You are supporting a friend’s side hustle and getting a cake made with actual care and attention.

5 Recommendations:

  • Ribble and Pudding | @ribbleandpudding | Known for drip cakes, custom designs, and premium character cakes.
  • Baker’s Brew | @bakersbrew / bakersbrew.com | Established Sembawang bakery, does custom cakes and signature bakes.
  • Sugar and Thumb | @sugarandthumb | Custom celebration cakes, known for clean modern designs.
  • Croquembouchier | @croquembouchier | Upscale custom cakes, French pastry influence.
  • Couture Cakes SG | @couturecakessg | Premium character cakes, highly detailed designs.

What to watch for: delivery logistics, whether the baker has a food hygiene certificate (required if selling), and minimum lead time. Most need 5-7 days notice.

Some popular bakers are booked 3-4 weeks out during school holiday periods.

2. Bakery Chains (Most Consistent)

Places like Four Leaves do birthday cakes reliably. The quality is consistent, you know what you are getting, and you can order with 2-3 days notice.

Typical cost: $35 to $70 for a 6-inch cake.

5 Recommendations:

  • Four Leaves | fourleaves.com.sg | +65 6268 6516 | Sembawang-based, multiple outlets (Great World, Sembawang, Jurong etc). Signature Strawberry Cake is iconic. Regular round cakes from SGD $38–$68. Custom cartoon cakes available. Delivery islandwide.
  • Baker’s Brew | @bakersbrew / bakersbrew.com | Established Sembawang bakery since 2015. Celebratory birthday cakes SGD $55–$90. Customised cakes available. Next-day delivery islandwide ($12.80). WhatsApp: +65 8877 8870.
  • BreadTalk | Various malls islandwide | Fire Wang (乌卒卒) and character cakes SGD $30–$55. In-store only, no custom design. Most convenient if you are already at a shopping mall.
  • Ang Chin Screening (真美珍) | Geylang | Traditional Cantonese bakery. Known for polar bear cake (北极熊蛋糕). SGD $35–$55. Walk-in only, cash payment. Very popular during Chinese New Year.
  • Fu Lu Shou Bakery (福禄寿饼家) | Chinatown | Traditional Singapore bday cakes, retro designs popular in the 90s. SGD $30–$50. Cash only. Queue for Chinese New year orders starts very early.

The trade-off is customisation. You pick from what they have. Character cakes are usually limited to whatever templates they have printed. If your child wants something specific, you may be out of luck.

3. Supermarket Bakeries (Most Affordable)

Cold Storage, NTUC FairPrice, and Sheng Siong have in-store bakeries that do birthday cakes. The quality is basic but the price is hard to beat.

Typical cost: $18 to $35 for a 6-inch cake.

5 Recommendations:

  • FairPrice Finest | In-store bakery | Customised character cakes via pre-order form. Around SGD $25–$45 for 6-inch. 2-day pre-order required. Most convenient for NTUC members.
  • Cold Storage | In-store bakery | Similar range to FairPrice, around SGD $28–$48. Slightly premium feel compared to NTUC.
  • Giant | In-store bakery | Budget option, SGD $20–$40. Very limited customisation. Best for simple celebrations.
  • Sheng Siong | In-store bakery | Basic cakes, SGD $18–$35. Most limited customisation of the bunch but cheapest and fastest if you live near a store.
  • Don Don Donki | Japanese-style chantilly cakes, cute character designs. SGD $30–$60. Trendy option with that Japanese aesthetic. Great if your kid likes Japanese-style cuteness.

These are the cakes that appear at every preschool birthday celebration. Nothing fancy. The kids still eat them. The parents still take photos. Nobody complains.

4. Custom Character Cakes (Instagram Bakeries)

Instagram bakeries have exploded in Singapore. These focus on Licensed Character and anime designs like Disney, Marvel, Peppa Pig, 奥特曼, Cocomelon etc. Most operate via IG\/WhatsApp.

Typical cost: $70 to $150 depending on design complexity.

5 Recommendations:

  • The Sweetest Thing (SG) | @thesweetestthing.sg | Licensed character cakes, Disney and Sanrio specialist. SGD $85–$130. Very popular, book early.
  • Couture Cakes SG | @couturecakessg | Premium character cakes, highly detailed fondant work. SGD $90–$150. Best for milestone birthdays.
  • IceMilk | @icemilk | Smaller portion sizes, cute designs. SGD $60–$90. Good for intimate parties under 10 pax.

  • Craftosphere | @craftosphere | Known for detailed fondant work and elaborate designs. SGD $90–$140. Best for parents who want Instagram-worthy results.

These are where you get the really impressive stuff. 3D cakes, pixel art cakes, cakes that look exactly like a Minecraft diamond sword. If your child has a specific vision, this is where you go.

5. Cupcake Towers and Alternatives

Smart budget move. 1 tower serves 20-30 pax at a fraction of cake cost. Each cupcake is decorated individually, which means no single point of failure if something goes wrong. Plus they are easier to distribute at parties.

Typical cost: $40 to $90 for 24-36 cupcakes.

5 Recommendations:

  • Baker’s Brew | Cupcake towers starting around SGD $55 for 12 cupcakes. Can match themes to birthday party.
  • Four Leaves | Cupcake towers, SGD $48–$68 for 12. Consistent quality from a trusted name.
  • Cupcake Popculture | @cupcakepopculture | Themed cupcakes, fully custom designs. SGD $3–$5 per cupcake.
  • Muffin and Cup SG | @muffin.cup.sg | Individual themed cupcakes, SGD $3–$4.50 each. Minimum order applies.
  • Dulcetivo | @dulcetivo | Premium cupcakes with elaborate decoration. SGD $4–$6 each. Best for parents who want the visual impact of a cake with the practicality of cupcakes.

This is what we are doing next time. Less stress, same impact, and every kid gets their own cake.

Size Guide: How Much Cake Do You Actually Need

Most people order too much cake. Here is a rough guide based on what actually gets eaten at a kids party.

  • 6-inch (serves 12-15): Enough for a small family party or a preschool class. This is what most people need.
  • 7 to 8-inch (serves 20-25): For a bigger family gathering or if you have adults who actually eat cake.
  • 9 to 10-inch (serves 30-40): Only if you have a large extended family or a very long party.
  • 2-tier: The Instagram crowd-pleaser. Counts as 2 separate servings stacked together. Typically serves 30-40 pax. Most impressive visually but also most expensive.

My honest recommendation. Order for 80 percent of your expected guests. You can always buy extra cupcakes as backup.

And nowadays, guests seldom eat the cakes. So a smaller cake will reduce food waste.

Where to Buy Based on What You Need

Best for Budget ($20-$35)

Supermarket in-house bakeries. Order 3 days ahead. No customisation but reliable and affordable. Great for school classmates or a simple family celebration.

Best for Custom Designs ($70-$120)

Home bakers and Instagram bakeries. Order 2-3 weeks ahead. Bring a photo reference. Be clear about the serving size. Confirm delivery or pickup logistics before paying.

Best for Character Cakes ($50-$90)

Bakery chains like Four Leaves. Order 3-5 days ahead. Their character cake range is one of the widest in Singapore and the quality is consistent.

Best for Gluten-Free or Special Diets

Most home bakers can accommodate dietary needs if you ask. Some supermarkets now carry gluten-free or vegan cake options. Best to call ahead and confirm.

What I Would Do Differently

If I were starting over, here is what I would do.

First. Do not overthink the cake. Your child will not remember it. You will remember the party. Focus on the experience, not the cake.

Second. Order early. School holiday periods and weekend birthdays book out popular bakers fast. Give yourself at least 2 weeks minimum.

Third. Have a backup plan. One year our delivery was 45 minutes late. We had cupcakes from the supermarket as backup. Nobody knew the difference.

Fourth. Consider cupcakes. Less stress, easier to serve, and you get variety if you order two flavours.

Fifth. Take photos of the cake before the party. Once the kids get to it, the evidence is gone.

The super tip: If you a theme cake, just get some cake you like from fourleave, buy topper from shopee. $5, settle already.

You want more can put some little flags whatever.

The Bottom Line

You do not need to spend $150 on a birthday cake for your child to have a great birthday. A $30 supermarket cake with candles and a song works just as well for a 3-year-old.

But if you want something special, Singapore has excellent options at every price point. Home bakers give you the most customisation for your budget. Bakery chains give you consistency. Supermarkets give you affordability and convenience. And if you know someone who bakes from home, ask them first. Supporting a friend’s side hustle while getting a personalised cake? That is the move.

Pick based on your budget, your timeline, and how much customisation you actually need. Your child will be happy either way.
